Cleethorpes Coastguard was called out to an incident on Thursday evening

A coastguard has issued a warning after being called out to reports of two teenagers wave-dodging late at night in a seaside resort.

Cleethorpes Coastguard was called out at 21:38 GMT on Thursday to reports of a 17-year-old man and 18-year-old woman "dodging the waves" on the slipway on the North Promenade in Cleethorpes.

After conducting a search, the coastguard located the pair, who were safe on land.

The coastguard said: "Please do not put your life or the lives of others at risk for the sake of a photograph or trying to dodge the waves."

"Suitable words of advice" were given to the pair, the coastguard said, "regarding how their actions had potentially put not only their own lives at risk, but also those of coastguard teams and police who were actively searching for them."

Cleethorpes Coastguard urged people to dial 999 and ask for the coastguard if they see anyone in danger or difficulty along the coastline.

It added: "If it is safe to do so, please remain on scene, keep eyes on the casualty, and await our arrival.

"This greatly assists us when conducting searches along the beach and in the water."
