Fire crews were called to John William Street in Huddersfield town centre

Fire crews from across West Yorkshire have been tackling a fire at a restaurant in Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to the blaze on John William Street in the town centre at about 21:35 GMT on Wednesday.

The fire service said the fire had started in the basement of a four-storey building, which has a restaurant on its ground floor and accommodation above.

A large water jet, breathing apparatus and hose reels were used to tackle the fire, with eight fire engines attending in total. The street was closed from St Peter's Street to Westgate while emergency services worked at the scene.
