A woman suffered serious injuries when she was hit by a bus outside York Station, police said.

The incident happened at about 11:00 GMT, with Station Road closed to allow for investigations. It has since reopened.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, North Yorkshire Police said.

Traffic had earlier been warned to avoid the area, with bus services diverted and rail passengers urged to use alternative entrances to the station.
