Chertsey Town fan cycling to every away match

A football fan is cycling to every one of his team's away matches this season to raise awareness of inflammatory bowel disease.

Jake Warner, from Chertsey, Surrey, said he had not seen the fixture list before he decided on the challenge in support of Crohn's & Colitis UK.

Chertsey Town FC's first away fixture was 181 miles (290km) away in Tiverton, Devon, and the furthest will be to Plymouth Parkway, 260 miles (418km) from his home.

"It's something I wanted to do for my dad," he said. "It affects him personally, the illness, so it's just something I wanted to do for him."

Crohn's disease and colitis are the two main forms of inflammatory bowel disease, according to the charity.

About one in 120 people in the UK have Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, and the NHS says symptoms can include stomach pain, diarrhoea, weight loss and fatigue.

"The more I've done this journey, the more people I've spoken to," Mr Warner told BBC Radio Surrey.

"Although it's a small amount of people, it's a large community."

Asked if he felt tired when arriving at the away grounds, he said: "The beer helps to keep me awake."

The team plays in the Southern League Premier South.
