An investigation has been launched after reports of an attempted robbery by a man "holding a small knife", Jersey Police say.

Officers said the incident was alleged to have occurred at a property of La Route de la Haule in St Brelade, at 17:35 GMT on Saturday 7 February.

The man knocked on the door of a ground-floor property and, while holding the weapon, asked the person who opened it for their car keys, police said.

They said the person in the property immediately shut and locked the door, nobody was injured, and the suspect did not access the home.

The police said that they arrived on the scene within 11 minutes.

Officers said it appeared to be an isolated incident, and that they wished to reassure the public that they were doing everything they could to identify the suspect.

They issued a description of the man they are seeking to identify, who was said to be wearing:

  • A black jacket with hood up
  • Grey, baggy jogging bottoms
  • Black boots or trainers

The man was carrying a dark rucksack with white details, "possibly Adidas", the force added.

Anyone in the area at the time, and anyone who may have dashcam footage and drove along La Route de la Haule between 17:00 and 18:00 on Saturday, has been asked to contact police.
