Retired fisherman Barry Mundy said the broken-down lorry had been "rather inconvenient"

A broken-down lorry which blocked a Cornish lane, leaving residents and holidaymakers unable to enter - or leave - Mullion Cove in their cars, has been moved.

The lorry stopped at about lunchtime on Wednesday but could not be recovered as its brakes and gearbox had seized. It was winched to a passing point on Thursday evening.

Retired Mullion Cove fisherman Barry Mundy said it had been "rather inconvenient" as his wife had had a knee replacement operation and had to walk around the obstacle using crutches to get to a hospital appointment.

Emma Sharland, who runs a holiday park in the cove, said all their guests were "trapped in or out of" the site.

News imageThe image shows a large articulated lorry stopped on the side of a rural road. The trailer is wrapped in advertising for a French beer brand, with a big image of a beer bottle cap and the words “La Goudale” and “Les Brasseurs du …” clearly visible along the side. The road surface looks wet, suggesting recent rain, and the sky above is grey with heavy clouds breaking to lighter patches near the horizon.
The lorry was moved to a passing space

Richard Stephens, who lives nearby, said: "The poor driver has been stuck in there all night."

Mr Mundy said: "We've just got over Storm Goretti with no electricity, then no water, then for several days no Wi-Fi.

"Finally, we were back to normal, and then this happens."

Roofer Chris Lonsdale was due to repair houses in the harbour which had been damaged by the storm.

He said running the ladders and kit around the lorry "keeps us fit".
