Former football ground to become £24m NHS centre
Alex Pantling/Getty ImagesPlans to demolish a former football stadium and build a £24.9m NHS centre have been approved.
The community diagnostic centre (CDC) will be built at York Street, the former home of Boston United, and offer services including CT scans, MRIs and X-rays.
Work will see the demolition of the existing structures, including spectator stands and lighting towers, ahead of the redevelopment of the site.
The CDC is expected to open in spring 2027, officials said.
United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS TrustDaren Fradgley, deputy chief executive at Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group, said the Boston facility would ease the pressure on "our very busy hospital sites".
"We are now working through the final arrangements, including completion of the purchase of the site, which will enable us to begin demolition and construction," he added.
"The CDC will be run by the same NHS teams as our hospitals, with access to the same digital systems, and include its own dedicated free parking for patients."
Lincolnshire already has several NHS CDCs, including facilities in Lincoln and Skegness, which have seen more than 100,000 patients since they opened at the end of 2024.
Boston United played their final match at York Street in 2020 before moving to their current home at the Jakemans Community Stadium.
