Peeling safety paint at La Vallette to be replaced

New safety lines painted around La Vallette bathing pools are to be replaced after quickly deteriorating, the States said.

"We're working with our contractor to understand why the paint has deteriorated so quickly" a statement from Land Management Services said.

The new lines have received a mixed reception from swimmers - Robert De La Mare said he found them "useful" when the water was choppy.

However, Celsy Gardiner said they were "a waste of time".

She said: "The pools have been here many years, you don't need them. But the worst thing is my daughter and I have slipped on the lines."

"It's coming away already and a lot of is it in the pool, is it environmentally friendly or toxic?

"People aren't stupid they use their common sense. The States do the stupidest of things in the stupidest of places."

Maureen McLellan felt the painting was a "great idea".

She said: "It is protecting [people] from jumping in when they might hit their head.

"They are breaking up a little bit after such a short time so that needs looking at, but in principle I think it's a really good idea."

Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services said it would repaint the lines and remove the loose areas of paint.
