Plan to lower speed limits on roads near village

Plans to reduce the speed limit on roads around a village in north Lincolnshire have been shared with residents.

The proposals would see the introduction of a 20mph (32km/h) limit on eight roads in Althorpe and a 40mph (64km/h) limit on a section of the A18 and the main street in the village, North Lincolnshire Council said.

A consultation has been launched and residents have been invited to have their say on the changes.

Neil Poole, deputy leader of the authority, said the plan would not only "improve safety, but it reduces emissions, helping to enhance air quality".

The 20mph speed limits would be introduced on Main Street, Kelsey Lane, Ferry Road, Church Lane, Neville Close, Vermuyden Court, Hawthorne Way and Poplar Crescent.

A 40mph speed limit is proposed for the A18 between Althorpe and Keadby, and on Main Street from the junction with the A18 heading south to the start of the proposed 20mph zone.

Poole said: "We take road safety very seriously and are committed to making our roads safer for everyone – pedestrians, cyclists and drivers."
