A man has been photographed offering food and drink to people stuck in traffic as police responded to an incident.

It came as the A27 in West Sussex was closed in both directions between the A259 west, near Emsworth, and the A259 east, near Chichester, on Monday morning.

Emergency services were responding to concerns about the welfare of a girl who was later taken to hospital, according to Sussex Police.

The unknown man was pictured walking down a stretch of the A road between two queues of traffic, handing out crisps and bottled water.
