A person has died after being found critically injured on a roadside in the early hours of the morning.

The pedestrian was found by a member of the public on the A38 Bridgwater Road in Winscombe, North Somerset, at 00:10 GMT.

Avon and Somerset Police said the person died at the scene and work to identify their next of kin is ongoing. The road remains closed while investigations continue.

A spokesperson for the force said it was unclear how they became injured and added officers were keeping an open mind whether it was the result of a hit and run.

Police said the pedestrian was found between Fox Lane and Fullers Lane and asked for any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage to get in touch.
