Mystery surrounds Hull war graves flower tribute

Almost 500 bunches of artificial flowers have been left by a mystery donor on war graves in a Hull cemetery.

The tributes have been left on the headstones in the city's Western cemetery on Chanterlands Avenue.

The cemetery has 395 graves belonging to those who served in World War One and 100 from people who served in World War Two.

The flowers, in a variety of colours, were laid ahead of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 6 June.

One passer-by told the BBC: "It's a really good idea. I didn't notice at first but it's brilliant. Hopefully it'll get people talking and it's a good tribute. Really emotional."
