Jersey Cheshire Home residents want to add to the colour of Battle of Flowers

Residents of a care home that supports people with disabilities will take part in Jersey's Battle of Flowers parade.

Stanley Baudains, Irene Hamon and Dina De Jesus from Jersey Cheshire Home (JCH) will ride their decorated wheelchairs as part of the celebrations on 9 August.

They will also take part in the Moonlight Parade on the 10 August.

The residents will be dressed up to match the theme of party time at Jersey Cheshire Home.

Mr Baudains has been working with JCH staff and volunteers to prepare his wheelchair and outfit.

He said it was “quite exciting” to be part of the event and “more of us should get involved in it”.

“Our decorations and outfit designs are a bit secret but I can say they will be quite bright and there is very much a festive party theme to it,” Mr Baudains added.

Aileen Landers, who is the activities co-ordinator at JCH, said it had been a “busy time getting everything together” but the home had been “very lucky that a lot of people have given up their time to help”.

Ms Landers added: “It is all about getting our residents involved in Battle of Flowers because they are part of the community too and it is a special time for everyone.”

Thousands of people are expected to attend this year’s event.
