A man has been arrested after a Nazi symbol was painted on to a town's Muslim centre, which police confirmed they were investigating as a potential hate crime.

The black swastika was drawn on the wall of the Shrewsbury Muslim Centre on Preston Street on 7 May at about 20:10 BST.

West Mercia Police said a 41 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

The force's spokesperson added that the case was being treated as a racially or religiously aggravated hate incident.
