Luton Pride event cancelled as charity shuts
Pride in LutonLuton's Pride event has been cancelled after the charity behind it announced it is to close.
Pride in Luton announced on social media that the charity was winding down and that the trustees did not have the "organisational capacity" to sustain it at the necessary level.
The event was due to be held in the Bedfordshire town on 13 June.
The trustees said: "We are proud of what Pride in Luton has achieved - creating visible celebration, building connection and contributing to inclusion and belonging across the town."
"This work has mattered, and it continues to matter."
In a statement posted on social media the organisers said trustees had voted to dissolve the charity.
"This has been a difficult decision," organisers said.
"After a challenging year, the Trustees have concluded that we no longer have the organisational capacity required to sustain the charity in a way that delivers the governance, stability and impact our community deserves.
"We believe responsible leadership means recognising when an organisation cannot continue at the level it should, and choosing to close with integrity rather than compromise quality or accountability," the statement said.
Pride in Luton said all outstanding obligations would be honoured and outstanding funds "applied in line with their original charitable purposes".
Trustees also thanked those who had been part of Luton's Pride events.
