A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a woman who was found dead at a property in south London.

James Flanagan, 53, was arrested at the scene after officers were called to an address in Rodney Road, North Walworth, on Sunday afternoon amid concerns for the welfare of a woman, the Met Police said.

They found 58-year-old Julie Wilson dead at the scene. Her family are being supported by specialist officers, the Metropolitan Police said.

Mr Flanagan, of Stead Street, North Walworth, was charged with murder on Wednesday and the following day appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court, where he was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Monday.

Det Insp Mark Franklin said officers' thoughts were with Ms Wilson's family and friends.

"While a man has now been charged, our investigation continues, and we urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to us to come forward," he added.
