Wooden play tower plans for public gardens

A child's playground featuring timber towers could form part of a revamped public garden in North East Lincolnshire.

Pier Gardens in Cleethorpes will see investement as part of a wider £18.4m regeneration project in the seaside town.

Plans submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) show the play structures would have connecting bridges, chain paths and multiple levels.

The designer WSP UK Limited wrote in the application: "The existing site, currently occupied by a disused crazy golf course with poor-quality paving and seating, will be transformed by the proposed play structure."

The regeneration of the public garden would include new zoned areas, including water play, terraced play features, a flexible event space and a quieter area.

The plans state a pedestrian walkway would run through the timber play towers as part of the design.

NELC said a tender process had closed and a contractor for the building work is being sought.

Other features of the gardens include:

A small skate park at the Sea Road end of the garden.
A play area with both water play and play structures.
An education area with a small amphitheatre
A remembrance area based around the memorials that are already in the gardens, close to Remembrance Gate.
