One person injured after car hits restaurant
BBCOne person has been taken to hospital after a car hit a restaurant in Wigston.
Leicestershire Police said they were called to Bell Street at about 16:05 BST on Saturday after receiving reports a car had mounted the kerb and hit a building.
A person who was inside the business has been treated for "non-life-threatening injuries", a force statement said, while a man and a woman in their 80s who were in the car were not injured.
Shokudo, a Japanese restaurant, has informed customers that it will be closed following the incident.
In a message to customers, a spokesperson for the restaurant said: "Due to an unexpected incident at our shop, we regret to inform you that we will be temporarily closed from today until further notice.
"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and truly appreciate your understanding and support during this time."
Local resident David, who did not want to give his surname, said he witnessed the aftermath of the crash.
"You could just see the back of the car about a foot inside, so you could tell how deep it had gone into the shop," he said.
"It could have hit someone on the pavement as it passed through or people sitting in the shop."
Police said no arrests have yet been made, adding that officers were "carrying out enquiries to ascertain the circumstances of the collision".
