Shaun Powell was given a 16-month prison sentence at Truro Crown Court

A man has been jailed after what a judge called "an Aladdin's cave" of weapons was found at his house.

Shaun Powell, 43, from Glasney Place, Penryn was initially arrested for breaching an existing sex offender order and when police searched his home they found improvised explosive devices and Molotov cocktails.

Truro Crown Court heard police also found handwritten notes making threats to 10 Downing Street and the House of Commons, along with balaclavas, masks, cables and ropes.

Judge James Adkin gave Powell a 16-month jail sentence after he admitted possessing a weapon and a noxious liquid.

The court heard Powell had previous convictions for possessing weapons including explosives, noxious liquid and blades and had been jailed before.

The judge said he had been concerned that Powell was not on the radar of the authorities but that he would be now.

Devon and Cornwall Police's Det Con Seb Angove said: "Needless to say, if used these items could have caused death or serious harm.

"Powell's actions resulted in a large and prolonged emergency services response and considerable disruption to residents living nearby."
