A man has died in hospital more than five weeks after a crash in the Scottish Borders.

Ian Weir, 66, was driving a blue Toyota Rav4 when he was involved in a collision near Fountainhall on 4 December.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after the incident but later transferred to Borders General Hospital where he died on Monday.

In a statement, his family described Weir as a "much-loved brother and uncle who would be sorely missed".

Police Scotland said they were keen to speak to an unidentified man who stopped to provide assistance at the scene after the crash.

Officers also thanked members of the public who assisted before emergency crews arrived.

PC Lisa Parker said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Weir and we will continue to support them while our inquiries progress.

"We're still keen to speak to anyone who was on the A7 around the time of the crash and saw what happened."

She also urged anyone with relevant dash cam footage to contact the force.
