Two men have admitted trying to smuggle migrants into the UK on a yacht from northern France.

The boat, with seven people on board, was intercepted by a Border Force cutter off the Isle of Wight on 20 July, the National Crime Agency (NCA) previously said.

Two Ukrainian men, Vladyslav Cherniavskyi, 37, and Oleksandr Yavtushenko, 43, pleaded guilty to three joint charges of assisting unlawful immigration.

They are due to be sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on 12 December.

The operation to stop the yacht involved Border Force officers and French law enforcement, the NCA previously said.

The vessel was escorted into Gosport marina and its passengers were detained.

Three Albanian males and a Vietnamese female were initially handed to immigration authorities.

A fifth passenger, Pellumb Selimi, 29, from Albania, was arrested for failing to appear in court in connection with drugs offences.
