Police investigating a serious assault on a woman have found a man's body in a play park.

Officers were called to the village of Naburn, near York, after reports of an assault at about 17:50 BST on Monday.

The woman was taken by air ambulance to hospital. A search for a suspect led officers to a nearby park, where the man's body was discovered.

A spokesperson for the force said officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the man's death.

"We realise the events in Naburn will have caused shock and concern in the village. However, officers believe that the wider community were not at risk and that both parties involved in the incident knew each other," the spokesperson added.

Members of the public were thanked for supporting the victim of the assault and helping at the scene.

Police are asking residents to report sightings of a "beige-coloured" whippet, which escaped from the property during the incident.
