If plans are approved, Brighton and Hove City Council hopes the new King Alfred Leisure Centre will open by 2028.

Plans for the rebuild of a leisure centre in Hove, East Sussex, have been published.

The new King Alfred Leisure Centre will include a larger fitness suite, leisure water area, family entertainment zone and an underground car park.

In 2024 Brighton & Hove City Council announced it intended to demolish and replace the original 1939 building.

If the plans are approved the authority says it hopes to start work in 2026, with the new facility open by 2028.

Alan Robins, cabinet member for sports, recreation and libraries, said: "These final designs reflect the feedback we've heard from residents and the progress we've made in developing a scheme that is deliverable, sustainable and right for this seafront site.

"With the project team now firmly established and the plans worked through in detail, we have a clear and credible route to delivering a new leisure centre while keeping the existing facility open until the replacement is ready."

Preparatory work, including planting and landscaping, is now being carried out, although some shrub removal has been delayed due to sparrows nesting earlier than usual in the year.
