Plot details teased as Bergerac set to return
UKTVDetails about what fans of Bergerac can expect from the Jersey-set TV detective drama's upcoming second series have been unveiled.
Made famous by actor John Nettles from 1981 to 1991, the show was rebooted in 2025 to huge success.
About 750,000 viewers tuned in last February to watch Irish actor Damien Molony take over from his predecessor, now 82, in the title role.
And the programme's makers have now revealed the well-loved character's return to our screens this spring will see him pitted against "the most challenging case of his career". They added that romance could even be on the cards for the popular TV policeman.
"Jim's tentatively started dating, with the encouragement of Kim [played by Chloe Sweetlove], although he still feels a hole in his life since his wife's death," said a UKTV spokesperson.
"Privately though, he doesn't hold out much hope of meeting someone special, until along comes Nicola [Camilla Beeput], a visitor to the island with whom he connects."
But, just as things look like they might be on the up, Bergerac is pulled into his next big investigation when the groom at a wedding is found murdered in his hotel room.
"Could the victim's final words hold the key to the killer's identity?" the spokesperson added.
UKTVSeries two is also set to star a host of familiar showbiz faces, with Zoe Wanamaker returning as Bergerac's formidable mother-in-law, alongside Adrian Edmondson as Nigel, the new man in her life.
In addition, Robert Gilbert has been confirmed to star as Barney Crozier once again, while others appearing include Lesley Sharp, Charles Dale, Turlough Convery, Georgina Rich and Jonathan Aris.
And, despite being darker in tone than the 1980s original, the reboot's impact on tourism so far is said to have been "enormous".
Last year, chief executive of Visit Jersey, Tricia Warwick, said the number of people visiting the organisation's website had increased 70% on the previous month following episode one's debut.
The number of people then going on to book hotels and trips to the island also rose significantly, she added.
