Departures and arrivals from Manchester Airport have been delayed

Incoming and outgoing flights have been delayed by as much as one hour at Manchester Airport due to heavy rain.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain across parts of the north-west England, which is due to remain in place until 23:59 GMT - and said some forms of transport could experience delays or cancellations.

Manchester Airport said "low visibility" on the runways was to blame for the "slower movement of aircraft", as well as "an issue" on its taxiway.

It added repairs to the taxiway should be completed by lunchtime, and advised passengers should come to the airport as usual unless told otherwise by their airline.

Departing services experiencing delays include flights to Amsterdam, Brussels, and Lisbon.

Arrivals from Amsterdam, Paris, and Istanbul are among those affected.
