University awarded £2m to improve adult numeracy

A university has been awarded funding worth £2m to help improve adult numeracy in the West Midlands.

The money will go towards online support and tuition for adults who do not have a GCSE maths qualification at grade 4/C.

Students from across the region will become tutors and mentors on the scheme, led by the University of Wolverhampton.

Dr Liam Naughton said the outcome was excellent for the university and adults in the West Midlands.

He added the university had a great record of upskilling learners and hoped the sessions would help unlock new jobs or allow people to progress in their careers.

The funding was awarded to the university by the West Midlands Combined Authority, to support adults in the authority's catchment area.
