Drivers are being warned to expect delays, as improvement works start on two major roads.

Highways crews were due to begin a £2m improvement scheme at Cellarhead junction in the Staffordshire Moorlands on Monday, which is set to take about six months to complete.

The A520 Leek Road will be resurfaced and damaged ironwork and kerbs replaced. Lane closures and night-time closures have been planned.

Meanwhile, the safety barrier on the central reservation is being replaced on the A34 Stone Road between Trentham Gardens and the Monkey Forest roundabout. Lane closures will be in place Monday to Friday.

"The Cellarhead junction and A520 Leek Road is a well‑used route and these improvements will make a real difference for residents and all those who travel through the area," cabinet support member for highways at Staffordshire County Council Patrick Allen said.

"Our crews will do everything they can to minimise disruption while the work is carried out and I'd like to thank everyone in advance for their patience as we deliver these much‑needed upgrades."
