A murder inquiry has begun after the death of a 69-year-old woman in Worcestershire.

The woman was found dead at an address on Brick Kiln Street in Evesham about 20:40 GMT on Wednesday, West Mercia Police said.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder and is in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Gareth Lougher said nearby residents should expect a heightened police presence over coming days as they worked to establish the circumstances of the woman's death.

The officer added the incident would "no doubt bring shock and concern".

"I would like to offer my reassurance that this was an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public," he added.
