Firefighters tackle field blaze with farmer's help
Essex County Fire & Rescue ServiceCrews from four stations helped prevent a rapidly-spreading field fire from reaching farm buildings.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the blaze at Great Maplestead, north of Halstead, at about 16:30 BST.
A farmer worked alongside the crews to put it out. They came from stations in Long Melford and Sudbury in Suffolk, as well as Halstead and Harlow.
Station manager Lee Hurst thanked the quick-acting farmer, who he said "put an effective fire break in, which meant we were able to get the fire under control quickly".
