Dangling fox released back into the wild

A fox found dangling from a garden fence in Surrey has been released back into the wild after being cared for by the RSPCA.

He was discovered at about 07:00 GMT on Wednesday by a resident in Smithy Lane, Lower Kingswood, after becoming caught in wire fencing.

Animal rescue officer Chloe Wilson said: "It looks as though he miscalculated the jump and got stuck in the fencing by his back legs, he was very tired from trying to get himself loose."

The fox was taken to the Wildlife Aid Foundation in Leatherhead for a check-up and has now been released.

Ms Wilson said: "There was some wire trapping him there, but fortunately I was able to carefully untangle it and free him.

"Thankfully there were no obvious wounds or broken bones."

The RSPCA said its officers were specially trained to deal with challenging rescues but the public can assist with smaller incidents, for example, when a hedgehog has fallen into a drain or a bird has flown into a home.
