Man critical after being hit by car

A man in his 40s is in a critical condition after being hit by a car in County Louth.

The collision occurred shortly after 03:00 local time on the N2 near Funshog, Collon on Saturday. Gardaí (Irish police) and emergency services attended the scene.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene and removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda for treatment of serious injuries. He has subsequently been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 20s, was uninjured.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or were in the area to contact them.
