A man in his 40s has died following a crash involving two cars.

Emergency services were called to the A40 near Dowdeswell, Gloucestershire, at about 15:40 GMT on Tuesday, following reports of a crash involving a Mini Cooper and a BMW 5 Series.

The driver of the BMW sustained serious injuries and despite the best efforts of a member of the public and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mini, a woman in her 50s, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance where she remains in a serious condition, police said.

The man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Several road closures were put into place while a collision investigation took place, which have since been lifted.

Gloucestershire Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision and has not already spoken to police, or anyone who has dashcam footage of either vehicle prior to the collision, to get in contact.
