Railway station revamp work under way
Harborough District CouncilWork on a "significant" improvement scheme at a Leicestershire town's railway station has begun.
Grade II-listed Market Harborough railway station, in St Mary's Road, is the main gateway to the town centre, said Harborough District Council.
The authority has provided more than £73,000 of government funding to East Midlands Railway to create a garden area, build a welcoming arch, install new signs to help passengers navigate the station and add new seats.
Council leader Phil Knowles said he was "delighted" the project to improve accessibility and navigation was progressing.
He added: "It's important that the council continues to provide and maintain fit-for-purpose infrastructure that is for the benefit of our residents and visitors."
The work is due to be completed by the end of March.
