Four arrests after fight and firearm discharged
Getty ImagesFour people have been arrested after a fight and what is thought to be a firearm was discharged on Christmas Day, police say.
One man, in his late teens, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after he was assaulted in Bradwell Lea at about 16:20 GMT on Thursday, Derbyshire Police said.
A second man, also in his late teens, was taken to hospital with stab wounds to his abdomen after attending Glossop Police Station shortly after the assault was reported.
Police said CCTV footage from the scene shows what appears to be a firearm being discharged, but neither of the men who are in hospital have gunshot injuries and are expected to make a full recovery.
The force added that it was "not believed that anyone has been injured by a firearm", although no weapon has yet been recovered.
It confirmed three men and a woman had been arrested in connection with the assault, after armed officers attended a property in Hollins Lane, Gamesley, and are being held in custody.
The force said the scene remained cordoned off and further searches were due to take place.
'Significant information'
"At this time, it is believed that all those involved in the incident have been detained," a police statement said.
"While the investigation is in its early stages, it is believed that the victims and suspects are known to one another and there is no wider risk to the public from those involved."
Supt Adam Wilkins said the CCTV footage had been reviewed and "I can absolutely understand how shocking this will have been".
"[That] is why we moved quickly yesterday and armed officers arrested four people, who remain in police custody," he explained.
"I also want to make clear that as a community we will not stand for people using violence such as this on our streets – and I know that we have already received significant information from the public that is actively assisting our investigation."
Supt Wilkins urged anyone with information to get in touch and confirmed there would be an increased police presence in the area.
