Sheltered homes development to be ready by spring
Charnwood Borough CouncilThe redevelopment of a sheltered housing complex in Thurmaston is set to be complete in spring 2026.
Charnwood Borough Council said work to build nine bungalows on the site of the former St Michael's Court in Leicestershire was entering its final phase after the site was demolished in February.
The council said the former complex - which dated back more than 50 years - no longer met the needs of older tenants.
It added the replacement had been designed for people with mobility issues.
GoogleThe borough council said the former site comprised mainly of bedsits with shared bathrooms which were difficult to let.
It added the complex also had long corridors which were difficult for people with mobility issues.
Jennifer Tillotson, the council's lead member for housing, said: "The progress of the redevelopment of St Michael's Court has been exciting to watch throughout 2025, and we are now entering the final phases.
"The plots look fantastic, with modern fixtures and fittings and plenty of room inside.
"They are going to be safe and cosy homes for residents, and I am looking forward to visiting the site again when the properties are finished."
