A woman has died after a two-vehicle crash near Torness nuclear power station in East Lothian.

Police Scotland said the accident on the A1, which involved a Renault Austral and Land Rover Defender, happened at about 09:05.

The woman, who was a front passenger in the Austral, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said the male driver and the rear passenger were taken to hospital for treatment.

The male driver of the Defender was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Sgt Barry Sommerville said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died.

"Our inquiries are continuing and I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible."

The road was closed for around seven hours to allow investigations to be carried out at the scene.

A force spokesperson said formal identification had yet to take place but the woman's family had been notified.
