Footbridge to be repainted in club's colours

A newly repaired footbridge painted in Shrewsbury Town FC's colours is due to be reinstalled next weekend.

The Meole Brace bridge, repainted in blue and amber, will reopen to the public from 16:00 BST on 7 September.

The bridge allows pedestrians to cross Shrewsbury's Rea Brook between Meole Brace roundabout and the Brooklands pub.

A temporary blue structure has been in place since the permanent bridge was removed on 20 June.

Meole Brace road bridge will be shut overnight from 20:00 BST on Saturday until 06:00 the following day while the footbridge is reinstalled.

Shropshire Council said defects to the steel uncovered as the bridge was cleaned had since been repaired, with a second blast clean also completed.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for vehicles and pedestrians during the overnight closure and access to the pub car park temporarily restricted.

The work at the site has also involved installing new timber decking and terraced concrete steps on the downstream left embankment to provide access for inspectors.

The footbridge will reopen to the public from 16:00 on 7 September, the council said.
