Police are investigating after two fire stations were broken into and equipment was stolen.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said its Brandon and Bungay stations were targeted over the weekend.

Specialist rescue equipment, power tools and other items were stolen before the incidents were reported to Suffolk Police.

A spokesperson for the fire service said breaking into fire stations and stealing equipment was "appalling and completely unacceptable".

Police said tools and equipment were stolen from a fire engine at Brandon fire station

"Brandon and Bungay fire stations were targeted over the weekend, with specialist rescue equipment, batteries, chargers, power tools and other operational equipment stolen," they explained.

"While these thefts are extremely disappointing, we want to reassure residents that we have sufficient operational cover in place across Suffolk and our crews remain ready to respond when they are needed.

"We urge our communities to be vigilant, particularly around fire stations, and to report suspicious activity or any information which may assist the investigation to the police."

A spokesperson for the police confirmed the incidents had been reported on Monday and people were urged to report any information they had.
