A blaze at a former office building that firefighters worked overnight to put out is being treated as suspected arson by police.

The fire engulfed the roof of the derelict building in Greenwich Way, Andover, on Tuesday afternoon. At its height, seven fire engines and more than 40 firefighters were at the scene.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said crews worked into the early hours to put the fire in the roof space at the back of the building out.

No injuries had been reported and an investigation into the cause was set to get under way. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said inquiries were ongoing.

Residents in the area were advised to keep their doors and windows closed overnight due to the dense smoke.
