Man arrested after pedestrian killed in crash

A man has been arrested after a pedestrian died when she was hit by a car in a Hampshire village.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was struck by an Audi A3 on Oakley Lane in Oakley, near Basingstoke, at about 19:30 GMT on Wednesday.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said a 41-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drink driving and drug driving.

The force has urged witnesses to the crash, which happened between the junction of The Vale and Croft Road, or anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.
