Man charged with murder in court over fatal stabbing

A man charged with murder after a 37-year-old was stabbed to death and another man was seriously injured in Brighton has appeared in court.

Tyio Day, 37, was fatally stabbed in a property in Regency Square on Sunday. A second man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital with stab wounds, Sussex Police said.

Daniel Bassett, of no fixed address, appeared before Brighton Magistrates' Court charged with murder and attempted murder.

Bail was refused and the case was sent to Lewes Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Friday.

It comes as Day's family launched a fundraiser to cover funeral costs.

His family said that Day, also known as Marcus or Fletch, left behind two brothers and two children, and described him as "loveable and quiet".
