Community can vote for art to be installed in park

Two finalists have been announced for a public art competition which will be installed at a town's new community garden.

Westbury residents and a representative of a group of local school children have selected two nature-inspired art pieces to be installed in Westbury's Penleigh Park. The community can vote between the two finalists.

The aim is to make the park into a community space that "unites wildlife, wellbeing and art."

Ella-Mai Robey, Wiltshire Council's public art officer, said: "What started as a brilliant idea from local residents has become an amazing collaboration with Wiltshire Council's Art in the Public Realm Programme, Community Conversations and Westbury Town Council."

"Using public art developer contributions to create such a great art project for the community is really exciting."

The town council will also be planting in the park to improve biodiversity.

The art commission has been funded by public art developer contributions secured by Wiltshire Council.

Residents who live close to the park were included in choosing the finalists.

The group narrowed down the choice of art works to two pieces and it is now up to the wider community to decide which becomes a reality.

Over the next week, there are several places people can vote, including at Westbury Library from Monday to Friday.
