An ageing gas pipe in Devizes Road had to be replaced by the utility company

A key route which was closed for a gas pipe upgrade has reopened after a three-month closure.

Wales & West Utilities closed Devizes Road in Swindon, Wiltshire to replace 80-year-old gas pipes in July.

Some businesses previously said the closure could revitalise trade, while commuters raised concerns about the impact on traffic.

Wales & West Utilities said the works were "vital" as the section of pipe had reached the end of its operational life.

"As this work came to an end, our highways team and contractors resurfaced the road, from the Wood Street junction to the Britannia Place junction, and refreshed the road markings," the utility company added.

"The road has now reopened to all traffic."
