A man who stole an entire stand of chocolate from a shop on Christmas day has been jailed.

David Mundy, 36, of Farndale Close pleaded guilty to 31 different offences, including stealing £75 worth of confectionery from a Morrisons in Penhill, Swindon on 25 December.

He was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Describing Mundy as a "prolific" shoplifter, PC Will Cooper said he hopes the conviction "reassures local businesses that repeat offending is taken seriously".

The charges against Mundy included 15 thefts, 15 breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), one count of attempted theft and one count of assault.

All offences all took place at various shops across Swindon between 12 December and 9 January.

Wiltshire Police said the CBO was granted in November to try to prevent re-offending.

CCTV of the incident on Christmas Day showed Mundy squatting to lift the display stand of chocolate before carrying it out of the shop.
