Exhibition shares untold stories of the home front
Elmbridge Borough CouncilUntold stories of life on the home front during the Second World War are set to feature in an immersive exhibition, a local authority has said.
Elmbridge Borough Council said it was partnering with award-winning sound artist, Emily Peasgood, for the heritage project, Echoes of War, at Elmbridge Museum in Surrey.
The local authority said the displays would include home front artefacts from the museum and a centrepiece featuring five dressed mannequins, each representing how local residents supported the war effort.
Peasgood said: "I was drawn to this commission for its focus on intergenerational engagement, oral histories, and domestic wartime experiences."
The council said a main feature of the exhibition was a sound installation which, when touched, reveals local stories of life at home during the war.
Peasgood said the collaboration for the exhibition "revives forgotten stories from the museum's collection, creating meaningful connections between participants, visitors and their local history".
Simon Waugh, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and commercial strategy at the council, said it was "thrilled" to work with Peasgood.
"Echoes of War brings home front stories to life through a powerful, immersive experience," he added.
"It's a community project that celebrates Elmbridge's resilience and keeps our heritage alive."
The exhibition is due to run from 4 to 27 February.
