A sixth teenager has been charged with murder following the death of an 18-year-old who was fatally stabbed last month.

Zeshan Afzal was discovered with serious injuries on Oldbury Road in Smethwick, following disorder on 20 February, and died shortly afterwards.

Officers said on Friday they had charged a 17-year-old boy with Afzal's murder.

The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, is due to appear before Wolverhampton Youth Court on Saturday.

A 16-year-old boy who was also arrested has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Five other teenagers have already been charged with murder over the death of 18-year-old Afzal.

Police said their investigation remained active, and that they still needed to hear from anyone with information about what happened.

Thousands of people gathered to pay their respects to Afzal, at a service held at Oldbury Jamia Masjid on Oldbury Road on Sunday.

In a charity fundraiser started in his memory, he was described as being known for his "kindness, generosity, and laughter that touched everyone who knew him".

"To lose him during Ramadan has been an indescribable pain," it read.
