Fifth military drone manufacturer to set up in town
Neros TechnologiesA fifth military drone manufacturer has announced it is setting up shop in Swindon.
The town, which has already been chosen as a location for Stark, Tekever, DSEI Flyby, and Munin Dynamics, will also be the first UK base for Neros Technologies.
The company said it is planning to invest £10m over five years in its UK subsidiary in Swindon, which will be manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the armed forces and European allies.
Will Stone MP for Swindon North, said: "With five companies confirmed and more in the pipeline, it is undeniable that Swindon is now a major player in drone manufacturing."
Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS)The company, which has its headquarters in Los Angeles as well as offices in Washington DC and Kiyv in Ukraine, said it is "investing in sovereign British capability, workforce development, and national security".
Hugo Crawford, from Neros, said: "As a leading manufacturer driving the shift to sovereign supply chains for allied forces, the UK has always been a critical hub for Neros.
Stone, who used to be in the military himself, said it was "outstanding" to have the company join the "growing number of UAV manufacturing companies" in Swindon.
"I am proud to be supporting them as they expand into the UK with their leading capabilities that I believe are crucial for supporting the next generation of warfare and supporting jobs here in Swindon," he said.
The company has already taken part in first person view (FPV) drone trials - when the pilot has a live feed from the drone - and delivered drones to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Jim Robins, Leader of Swindon Borough Council said he was "delighted" to see another company set up in Swindon.
"The council is proud to be supporting Will Stone MP in establishing the town as a key player in the sector," he said.
"I look forward seeing the growth from Neros Technologies UK and the high skilled employment they will bring to Swindon."
