Temporary structures at the site would be replaced by a single two-storey building

Network Rail has applied to update "dilapidated and inefficient" welfare facilities at one of its depots in Sheffield.

The firm wants to demolish cabins on its site at Blast Lane, next to Victoria Quays, and replace them with a two-storey building.

The new building would include meeting rooms and office space at the site adjacent to two railway lines.

Sheffield City Council is due to consider the proposals on 9 February.

The application states the plans would transform "life-expired" temporary structures into a "sustainable and efficient facility that meets operational and staff welfare needs".

"The existing welfare and office accommodation at the Blast Lane depot consists of modular units and shipping containers, which are now at the end of their lifespan and appear dilapidated and inefficient."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the plans state that the corrosion of external steel staircases raises potential safety risks and the configuration of the temporary structures results in high operational costs.

The plan would include a landscaped outdoor seating area for staff and secure cycle storage alongside reconfigured parking bays.
