Teen arrests after bike thrown on train tracks
SuppliedTwo teenagers have been arrested after a bicycle and signs were "recklessly" thrown on to train tracks in a West Sussex village.
British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were called to Angmering railway station at about 23:40 GMT on Tuesday.
Two teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of obstructing the railway, the force said.
"Incidents like this can cost lives; either those perpetrating on the railway infrastructure, or customers using our network," said Network Rail.
"Fortunately, the incident was identified quickly and before any significant safety consequences occurred," it added.
"However our customers still faced disrupted journeys home as a result of irresponsible behaviour."
BTP inquries ongoing
Samantha Facey, Southern Railway's health, safety and security director, said this "reckless and extremely dangerous behaviour simply beggars belief".
"The rules are simple. Stay off the tracks. They're for trains. Not for signs, or bikes, let alone people."
She warned trains at Angmering could be travelling up to 70mph (112km/h) and that disruption caused by any incident could have a "wide-ranging impact".
Further inquiries were ongoing, BTP added.
Southern Railway said it took all incidents like this "very seriously" and would work with police.
