Caller-free bingo hall proposed for former bank
GoogleA new caller-free bingo hall has been proposed for the former premises of a Halifax bank.
Luton-based applicant Sunni-Ed Limited has submitted full plans to Central Bedfordshire Council for the vacant building on the Biggleswade High Street.
The planning statement explained the venue would not be a traditional bingo hall and would only require eight members of staff.
It said: "New technology enables the use of touch screen machines, instead of the old style card and dabber approach."
"The entire process will be digitally linked, meaning individuals, couples or groups can play against others or separately," the planning documents continued.
"This method allows for a more efficient game playing experience, as well as removing the need for a bingo caller who needs to be viewed by all," the documents added.
The bank, which closed in July 2024, covered three floors of the building, but only the basement and ground floor would be used by the potential bingo hall.
No alcohol would be served at the site, instead only complimentary soft drinks and refreshments would be offered, reported Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The council was expected to make a decision on the proposal before 17 March.
